Greg Dilworth will be teaching the referee development clinic. Greg has been a nationally-rated referee for over 25 years. He has the highest referee rating and has refereed final 8 matches in all three weapons. He has taught successful referee seminars in all parts of the country.

His clinic will provide you with a broad understanding of the role, responsibilities and duties of a referee. He will refine your sense of right-of-way, timing and your application of the rules. Attending an official RC-sanctioned clinic is a prerequisite for becoming a certified USA Fencing referee. In addition to this clinic, you must complete an online written exam and be observed actually refereeing. Once a passing score (90%) has been achieved on the written exam (both the general section and one or more weapon-specific sections), a referee receives a rating of “P” in each weapon passed. Further ratings improvements can be obtained by being evaluated in a practical. It is highly recommended that you take and pass the examination prior to the practical.

The clinic will be held on Saturday and Sunday (January 14th and 15th) from 6:00p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

You must attend both sessions to receive credit for the course! It is highly recommended that you read the USA Fencing rulebook (https://www.usafencing.org/usa-fencing-rule-book) prior toattending. As with everything else in fencing, come prepared.
